10 things to watch for when traveling during COVID 19

Traveling is one of the fun things to do. More people are traveling because of lower airfares to destination near and far.

However during the pandemic a lot of things have changed as countries are changing COVID protocols based on number of death and case count. Unfortunately these changes are taking place after you have purchased your ticket.

The requirements are never posted anywhere. Even if they were available, it was not obvious. Passengers are getting stranded at the airports and also losing flights. There is a lot of frustration with it.

Remember if you bought you ticket with the airline and the requirements are not met your flight could be rescheduled. Unfortunately the tickets from travel website will be lost as there is no flexibility on them.

In order to avoid these situations follow these simple guidelines. As things change last minute.

Mask mandates

Where a mask and Carry more in you backpack. Some airports in South America require double masks.

Airports and all flights domestic and international

Masks are to be worn at all times in the airport and in all flights.

Face shield

Certain airports require you to wear masks and a face shield. Airlines have refused to check you in without one.

A negative COVID test

Domestic flight need you to have a rapid test- Antigen. This to travel to USA or to travel locally. International flights depending where you are flying to may need PCR test. This information could have been added at the last minute. The day before your flight call your airline to get that information. It is irrelevant whether you have the vaccine or not.

COVID test can be taken at any airport if you have the time. They cost anywhere from $100 to $250.

Health affidavit

Some countries like Peru wants you to register with the government an affidavit with your passport information. This is a permission in some way to declare that you don’t have symptoms or you were not with someone with covid. This can only be done 72 hours prior to your flight.

It is hard to know from the website or in some cases talking to an airline employee. When you are checking in they ask for these and you have to have them with you.

Check-in

In the traditional sense airlines let’s you check in 24 or 48 hours prior to your flight. Due to these restrictions you cannot do that anymore.

Purchasing tickets

Under these circumstances it is wise to pay a little more and get your flight ticket with the airline. This way you don’t lose the value of your ticket. You can reschedule or use as travel credit.

Returning back home to USA

You will need a negative test. A rapid test is good. In America there is the rapid antigen and PCR tests. In other countries there is three types of tests. Watch for that.

You also require Passenger Disclosure and Attestation filled and signed by you. Have a printed copy as the airline will take it from you. This is freely available on Google search.
