Oakland nature preserve

Oakland nature preserve is a combined ecosystems and a hiking trail close to Orlando Florida. Whether you are visiting from out of town or live here, it is a peaceful, moderately visited trail. Just to get away from the hustle and bustle of Orlando, this is one ideal place. If you are in to reviews and ratings, it has five stars on yelp.

This 150 acre nature preserve offers education for all ages on environmental and ecosystems and such activities. There is an event calendar on their website in the link below.

You could become a patron for an annual membership program to support restoration efforts and educational programs. You could also become a volunteer for the visitor center museum or a tour guide.

You walk along boardwalk most of the time. There are various vegetation and wildlife here. The trails are not very long and one of them has lake access. There are restrooms and parking. It is open year around.

The visitor center had displays of wildlife, books and other educational displays. The conservation, education and restoration efforts are the goal of the nature preserve.

The history of the Oakland nature preserve goes as far as 1880s. The lake Apopka which is the second largest lake in Florida was a popular spot for fishing tournaments. Apparently it was a selling point for Florida’s tourism. Hunting and fishing.

If you are a solo traveler this is a peaceful place to absorb and self motivate your freedom. This is a good place for bird watching. There are designated areas for it. There is a play place for children. There are seating along the trails. There is a picnic area too.
